Description
Pasta production began in the late 16th century, with the first family-run pasta factories.
In the 17th century, following a severe famine that struck the Kingdom of Naples, pasta became a staple in the local population's diet.
Naples and Gragnano enjoy ideal climatic conditions for pasta production.
In the second half of the 19th century, Gragnano's pasta factories were at the forefront of international pasta production.
This record was consolidated in October 2013, when "Pasta di Gragnano" was awarded Protected Geographical Indication (PGI).
