Description
The “Pomodorino del Piennolo del Vesuvio DOP” is one of the oldest and most traditional products of Campanian agriculture. It is cultivated on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, within an area strictly defined by the D.O.P. regulations.
The most distinctive feature of these Vesuvian cherry tomatoes is the traditional ‘a piennolo’ preservation technique. Ripe tomatoes are tied together into large clusters, which are then hung in well-ventilated rooms. This slow maturation process gives the tomatoes their unique and delightful flavor, allowing them to be stored throughout the winter.
The tomatoes are also highly valued when sold fresh, immediately after harvest, or as a preserved product in glass jars following the ancient ‘a pacchetelle’ method, which is also recognized by the DOP production standards.
Cultivation takes place on mineral-rich, highly fertile soils using traditional techniques, without irrigation, and entirely natural methods. Given the geographically and seasonally limited production, our products are labeled as “Limited Edition”. Availability depends on the harvest, which is constrained to a specific time window and influenced by seasonal climate conditions.
