Description
The “Piennolo del Vesuvio DOP Cherry Tomato” is one of the oldest and most traditional products of Campanian agriculture. It is cultivated on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, in an area strictly defined by the D.O.P. production regulations.
The most distinctive feature of Vesuvian cherry tomatoes is the traditional “a piennolo” preservation technique. This method involves tying together clusters of ripe cherry tomatoes to form a large bunch, which is then hung in ventilated rooms. Through slow maturation, this technique imparts a unique and delightful flavor to the tomatoes, allowing them to be preserved until the end of winter.
The cherry tomatoes are also appreciated fresh, sold immediately after harvest, or preserved in jars according to an ancient recipe called “a pacchetelle”, which is also included in the DOP production regulations.
Cultivated in mineral-rich, highly fertile soils using traditional methods, without irrigation and entirely natural practices, these tomatoes reflect the authentic terroir of Vesuvius.
Given the geographically and temporally limited cultivation, we can label our products as “Limited Edition”. Availability depends on the harvest, which occurs within a specific time window and is influenced by the season’s climate.
